Remember Shakti - Schnitzer Concert Hall, PDX OR 9.26.03

John McLaughlin - guitar, macbook pro
Zakir Hussein - tablas
U. Srinivas - Carnatic mandolin
V. Selvaganesh - kanjira, ghatam, mridangam

I had never even heard of Carnatic (slide) mandolin before this show. Sadly master Srinivas has passed since.

A superb audience recording made in the seat next to mine. A mesmerizing show, one of my favorites out of over 1000 lifetime concerts.

MP3 and FLAC are both available in the linked folder. I would welcome input on the unknown track titles.

How wonderful that I'll get to see Shakti again with the same friend who taped this in the same building! I doubt he'll record this one, he's pretty retired from that. It really is a fantastic tape with great dynamic range and realism

"Remember Shakti" was just the name of this slightly different lineup with mandolin instead of violin btw

@mrcompletely I really hope to make it to see Shakti…Zakir Hussain is playing twice in Nashville this year with the other being a performance with Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Ramesh Chaurasia at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center…Same venue I saw the Mahavishnu Orchestra tour with Jimmy Herring a few years back…

@tlmoore that Edgar tour is one I'm very jealous of. Not coming out here. Should be great

@mrcompletely it will never not make me laugh to see "MacBook pro" next to John freaking McLaughlin's name as instrumentation like he's some laptop dj or something

@LostReflector he used it enough I felt I had to list it and it gives me no end of chuckles, I'm glad I'm not the only one

@mrcompletely can't you just see him with one ear in the headset waving the other arm in the air bringing everyone to the drop? yeah... no, me neither

@waxbanks one of my fav recordings when you consider the performance, recording quality and rarity (there aren't many great Shakti tapes)

@stevesilberman mine as well - thanks for the link!!
