Genesis Birthdays

Today is Steve Hackett’s birthday. Tomorrow is Peter Gabriel’s birthday.

Let’s listen to some Genesis while wishing them both a happy birthday.

I’ve probably posted this video before. It’s actually pre-Peter Gabriel wearing costumes on stage. Not by much, but it is. Weird, huh?

Today’s listening is ‘Highly Strung’, the 1983 album by Steve Hackett.

Steve must have been so impressed by Genesis’ tradition of having awful album covers that he continued this dismal trend into his own solo career!

A situation not helped by his then wife being the album artist...

Ian Mosley, soon to join Marillion, plays drums.

Steve Hackett sings, which is Not A Good Thing.

Can I say anything positive about this record?

No, I cannot.

Out vinyl shopping 🛍️ this morning at Intense Records in Chelmsford got some good bargains. A Marillion album signed by Fish, two prog solo albums from Steve Hackett (Genesis) and Steve Howe (Yes). A free Sammy Hagar album, a Geordie album (Brian Johnson's band before AC/DC). Finally I bought my third Groundhogs album 43 years after buying the first two 😂.

🎧 YOU ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO GIVES EACH ALBUM A FRESH LISTEN BEFORE VOTING

Today’s listening is ‘Till We Have Faces’, the 1984 album by Steve Hackett.

Steve Hackett’s wife was the Brazilian artist Kim Poor and in 1983/4 Hackett decided to record a rock album in Brazil with Brazillian musicians, something that was very unusual at the time.

Just listen to the instrumental second half of ‘Matilda Smith-Williams Home For The Aged’ and you could be hearing the future Paul Simon!

Although interesting, it's hard to really like this album.
