Two #NewSpecies of #Psilocybe #mushrooms discovered in southern Africa phys.org/news/2024-07-species- #Fungi #CitizenScience

"Considering the vast mycological diversity on the continent, it is a daunting task. Collaborating with citizen #mycologists is therefore hugely beneficial... collaboration also opens avenues for conversation and exploration"

A friend in the states has a set-up to grow magic mushrooms. Unfortunately I’m unsure of the species, but I believe it’s #Psilocybe and likely cubensis. Never tried them myself though I would relish the opportunity

Because I’m on antidepressants that function as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) I run the risk of serotonin syndrome from the mushrooms and, hence, I don’t take them

New paper! “Standards without Labs: Drug Development in the #Psychedelic Underground”

We examine how a group of people with cluster headache developed a standardized protocol to treat their disease using #psilocybe mushrooms w/o equipment or institutional scientific support. They used an "embodied standard" that combines the dried weight of mushrooms w/subjective effects. Pragmatic goals for patient use differs from institutionalized scientists’ need for legitimation.
