#Reddit Is restricting #LuigiMangione discourse—but It’s even weirder than that: The website is attacking the users that made it the front page of the internet.
Fuck you Reddit, this is why I'm glad I'm entirely on the #fediverse now with:
#Mastodon
#Lemmy
#Revolt
#Matrix
I detest that they hold such power over the users, but I am so glad that it's being reported on. Fuck you, Reddit <3
No, not really. The best you'll get is BetterBird/Thunderbird and that is far from the best, but it is lightweight. I've been waiting for Miranda NG to get it but it hasn't, yet, but I haven't found any #Matrix client meeting my accessibility and lightweight standards. They all have unlabeled controls, so much so it impedes use. @RareBird15 @mastoblind @main
#Blind people who use #Matrix, particularly on #Windows, is #Element the most #accessible client? I've been getting into it because a lot of communities for #SelfHosted services use it, but I don't find Element the easiest to navigate, so I'm wondering if there are other options.

Is #matrix now one big monolithic spec or a bunch of extensions that may or may not be properly standardized?
Reading the spec itself, it sounds like one monolithic thing. Reasing some announcements and looking at the /_matrix/client/versions endpoint of my homeserver, it feels like a bunch of MSCs, the implementation of which may or may not be what the proposal currently says (small proposal from working with RFCs in variois lifecycles: version your different draft rounds).
If there were a #Matrix chat client with limited features which behaved exactly like Signal or WhatsApp, I think it would be popular.
If one exists, please point me to it.
Have you seen the art, clothing and general awesome work over at dustrial.net? Here: https://dustrial.net/collections/sale and if nothing else, look at what artists are creating. When was the last time you treated yourself Chummer? #Art #cyberpunk #omg #deepfleece #matrix #mallgoth
woah today I learned that if you connect to Matrix with FluffyChat or Cinny then you get custom user stickers and emoji, its like Discord or Telegram but easier!
Maybe time for people and groups to start considering #Matrix for their current #Discord servers, as Discord becomes focused on getting money out of everyone who uses it, with likely enshitification beginning soon. #XMPP/#Jabber is also an alternative.
Both are decentralized, publicly owned services, where you can interact with anyone else regardless of which server they choose to be hosted on, just like Mastodon, et al.

URL previews for Mastodon toots in Matrix are quite useless. There is no toot content in the preview. What could be done about this?
Could Synapse's URL preview generator be tweaked somehow to find the content?
Should Mastodon offer some hints on what to show as preview?
Something needs to be done, but I'm not sure what would be the proper way to address the issue.
Jon Stewart's guest brought up #Matrix today on the Weekly Show podcast - https://youtu.be/jsHoX9ZpA_M?si=uYHyoImNxd05QebL&t=2973 . The whole episode is important for anyone who cares about democracy. Well worth the listen.
Up late preparing for the first meeting of the @matrix Finance & Fundraising Committee
And we also have our first Trust & Safety Committee meeting tomorrow!
I love seeing open governance blossom.

Thunderbird is a free open source communications suite (supports email, RSS, XMPP, IRC, Matrix, Usenet). They have an official video account at:
They've already posted 29 videos, if these haven't federated to your server yet you can browse them all at https://tilvids.com/a/thunderbird/videos
They also have a general social media account at @thunderbird@mastodon.online
hey, i wanna ask.
since the matrix 1.12 and 1.13 specs were released (https://matrix.org/blog/2024/10/07/matrix-v1.12-release/, https://matrix.org/blog/2024/12/19/matrix-v1.13-release/) that started fixing the moderation toolkits issues matrix has had for a long time, do the people who use it regularly find it more safe and less of an abusers' wild west?
i know matrix has a horrible reputation when it comes to moderation, but i saw that the developers are finally trying to fix that situation after many years of neglecting it.
specification links about that functionality:

@vtijms You mean people should be more careful in picking their bandwagon?
When #Meredith came to the @DeBalie a few months ago she was targeting (among other things) the centralized nature of Big Tech.
I asked her why she doesn't work for the #Matrix foundation then.
She said that decentralization comes with security risks.
Apparently, when a hole in the system is found, all servers need to be updated for the network to be safe again.
