FFS, CBC. The story is not that LNG is wildly popular at a #fossilfuels convention in Texas.
The story is that Danielle Smith is at that convention looking for investors to fund LNG in Alberta for Kevin O'Leary's proposed $70 billion AI data centre which he says she has promised him she can authorize.
Because AI needs the massive amounts of electricity which LNG could provide.

The story is we are still thinking up new justifications to promote LNG. #cdnpoli

CBCWhy plain old natural gas is the hottest thing at the 'Super Bowl' of energy | CBC NewsAI data centres are sucking up tons of electricity, and natural gas is seen by some energy executives as a solution to help fill the demand. It's a hot topic at CERAWeek, a massive international energy conference in Houston that's sometimes described as the "Super Bowl" of energy.
U.S. President Donald Trump has cast a covetous gaze at Greenland. But why? In an interview, Greenland expert Paul Bierman explains why the exploitation of natural resources on the island is difficult, expensive and has generally not been profitable.#DonaldTrump #NaturalResources #FossilFuels #World

Climate Change a mere “side effect” and a “trade-off” of fossil fuel awesomeness, says Trump admin.

This takes me back 25 years, when economic models(*) used to calculate the “optimal trade-off” was to cause more climate change than had occurred since the ice age.

Of course there are “trade-offs”, but they involve catastrophic risks!

(*) which won the Nobel Prize in economics

The Guardian · What the world needs now is more fossil fuels, says Trump’s energy secretaryBy Dharna Noor

What remains of the mask finally falls away: "To applause from oil and gas executives, Chris Wright said natural gas was preferable to renewable energy and climate change was a 'side effect of building the modern world.'"

That raises some legal questions about whether Wright's statement amounts to accepting responsibility for civil claims that may arise in relation to injuries resulting from climate change-driven influences. Damage payouts could then be seen as merely an insurable 'cost of doing business' (if any insurer decides the risk is acceptable).

Chris Wright, the secretary of energy, gave a speech in Houston on Monday.
The New York Times · U.S. Energy Secretary Pledges to Reverse Focus on Climate ChangeBy Brad Plumer

#SCOTUS rejected a bid by 19 #Republican states led by Alabama to block 5 Democratic-led states from pursuing lawsuits accusing major #oil companies of deceiving the public about the role #FossilFuels have played in causing #ClimateChange.

The justices declined to hear a case filed directly w/the #SupremeCourt by Republican state AGs that took aim at cases brought in various state courts against companies including Exxon Mobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Shell & BP.

Before a packed crowd of #oil & #gas executives on Monday, Chris Wright, the new US energy secy, delivered a scathing critique of the #Biden admin’s #energy policies & efforts to fight #ClimateChange & promised a “180° pivot.”

Wright, a former #fracking exec, has emerged as the most forceful promoter of #Trump’s plans to expand American oil & gas production & dismantle virtually every federal policy aimed at curbing #GlobalWarming.

More of this:

"In the UK, the cities of Edinburgh and Sheffield have introduced such bans, with billboard ads for fossil fuel companies like Shell and BP, as well as airlines, airports, SUVs, and petrol- or diesel-powered vehicles disappearing from council-owned sites as the policies take hold."

BlockNeurath: 1,2 Mio. Euro? Pustekuchen!

ForbesFossil Fuels And Prudent Fiduciaries: TIAA Invest Vs TIAA-DivestTIAA pushed back, citing fiduciary duties.

Oil giant BP has abandoned its net-zero plans and will invest more in fossil fuel expansion.

BP’s U-turn isn’t an anomaly—it’s a pattern. Corporations act in their own financial interests unless compelled otherwise. The real question isn’t what every BP is doing, but how we respond.

If history has taught us anything, it’s that corporate pledges mean little without public pressure, policy intervention, and persistent advocacy.

The Climate Historian · BP’s U-Turn: Betting Big on Oil and GasBy The Climate Historian

“The fossil fuel industry is also the economic elephant in the room. Annual profits of companies like Shell have fallen, but remain staggeringly high. Meanwhile, the world is emerging from its hottest year on record. By imposing taxes, levies & fines on dirty energy companies, ending export credits for oil and gas & eliminating harmful subsidies, new funds can underwrite public-private insurance schemes. It can also support millions in middle- and high-income countries who join the global majority by losing access to the insurance system.”

TIAA-Divest! is fighting to hold one of the world’s largest retirement funds accountable — and this new Forbes article lays out exactly why.

forbes.com/sites/mariannekrasn

“As societies confront the real costs of #climatechange they are moving away from #fossilfuels, resulting in billions of dollars in stranded assets. For example, TIAA is the world’s 4th largest holder of coal bonds, even as the three coal plants it owns are shuttered.”
